Maybe it's Because I'm an Okie

I wanted to jot this down before I forget.

Had a deep thought and since they tend to be fleeting I'd better start writing, no?

I love God because God loves me. I know that he created me. That the ground beneath my feet is also his. That the air I breathe belongs to him because he made it. I know that the food I eat and the every dime I make ultimately are his. I know this. I also know that my life, the earth, the talents I've been blessed with were freely given. They were freely given for no other reason than God wanted to give them to us. There isn't much of an expectation attached to any of it.

I love him because he loves me. I am free not to love him. I do not have to be his slave. I am his slave because I want to be. There are no threats attached to leaving. None. All the threats attached are of my own making or they come from outside of Him. God is under no obligation to help me, he just does. I love him freely because I am freely loved.

Besides, if someone literally gives you life, the world, the earth beneath your feet, and enough talent to make your life interesting, it's only polite to say thank you. I guess in a strange way you could say I'm a Christian because I was raised right and taught to say Thank you when something is given to me.

We are all born naked, hungry, and useless. There is nothing useful about a baby when its born. Nothing. Newborns, let's be honest, aren't even cute until they've had a bath. Everyone, without exception, is born unable to take care of themselves. Someone has to do it for them. Everybody who takes care of somebody else is doing it ultimately because someone took care of them. That is the way it should be.

God is the only exception to this rule and he freely loves the rest of us.

Maybe it's because I'm an Okie, but I think it's only polite to say thank you.

Thank you!
