I had a "close encounter" yesterday with someone I was forced to delete off my own facebook months ago. When someone says or does something he deems "liberal" he responds with the same string of accusations every time. Did you know that being liberal means you approve of the following: abortion on demand (murder), homosexual marriage (the Bible call this an "abomination"), illegal immigration and so on and so on?? (that's haphazardly quoted but I'm not going to dignify it with an edit--- he put the exact same phrase on my page to describe Obama by the way)
I tried to reason with this person and got absolutely nowhere. I suppose I should thank him because he's the reason I figured out my privacy settings on facebook were all still set to public everything. I still have a nasty taste in my mouth over this though. Mostly because I have a feeling someone is telling conservatives all us liberals are like this and I'd like to know who.
I'm pretty sure that if I did find out I'd just be proving their point by any response I made and they'd call me an evil liar for denying the accusations they'd made against liberals and by extension me.
People like this not only malign people they could be friends with (I have pretty much cut these people out of my life completely) but they perpetuate a myth among non-christians that all Christians are trash talking neo-con hillbillies who hate queers and demand special treatment for their faith. Well you know what? It isn't true. I may be a little country but I do not qualify for hillbilly, I think Christianity in this country could actually benefit from a little persecution (it would weed out the damned fakers) or at least a little less special treatment, I'm not a neo-con and I don't hate queers. With some people though, there's absolutely nothing I can do to convince them that these traits are not tied up in Christian dogma. They practically tell me I don't know anything about my own religion if I tell them they've been misinformed because the Christians they encountered early in life were ....well, scary.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to counter this endless parade of crap that certain segments of the population keep putting front and center?
Cause I'm tired of it. I know people who used this sort of thing as an excuse for leaving the faith. I'm not going to be one of them though. The neo-cons better get used to me because I'm not going anywhere and I'm not shutting up.
